Hedgehog???

What is a hedgehog? The Urchins are small insectivores (insect eating) mammal that can be found worldwide. They are natives of England, Europe, Africa and Asia. The ferret, which now as a pet in North America held the Pygmy Hedgehog from Central Africa.

Since there are no indigenous species of heron in Canada or the United States, many people still confuse the domestic hedgehog for the porcupine - an entirely different animal and unrelated. While porcupine quills are very sharp, barbed and very dangerous, the hedgehog Quill is not that strong. Petting a friendly hedgehog can be compared with a pet hairbrush bristly, not prickly.

The African Pygmy hedgehog average weighs about ½ to 1 ¼ pounds and 5 to 8 inches long - about the size of a guinea pig. There are some who will grow up to 1 ¾ to 2 pounds (no fat), while others as little as 6 or 7 grams.

Your pet must be kept indoors at normal room temperature (65 to 80 * F) that a good quality dry food or cat food specially formulated hedgehog can be traced.

Besides just enjoyed as pets, there is an active pastime. Thanks to the International of Hedgehog (IHA) there is even a working demonstration and the level of perfection for African Pygmy hedgehogs.

Super Pet Guinea Pig Igloo Hide-Out

My pet hedgehog loves this igloo! Although this product is sold for guinea pigs, any small animal can use it. I have placed it in his cage and he now enjoys pulling the bedding into the igloo to make himself a nice cozy bed! The igloo is great because it is plastic, so it is easy to wipe up any messes that a pet may leave behind. My only complaint would be that you can't pick the color of the igloo that you receive and I ended up with a pink one. Pink is a great color, but not the first pick for my male hedgehog!

I have a hedgehog (who is 100% nocturnal) and she adores her wheel! This is absolutely a SILENT wheel. I had one previously that was somewhat quiet but this one has been improved (it is a little more sturdy) and is so silent I worry that she's not getting her exercise because I can't hear her at night! I have to check on her sometimes to be sure!

I was a little wary of ordering pet food online. However, we had been having trouble finding hedgehog food at the local pet stores. They used to carry it, but are either out or are no longer carrying it. On the advice of the previous owner we had been giving Ramona cat food, but it seemed to upset her digestive system. Not only does she really like this food, it seems to be better for her. The price is comparable, perhaps a little less than what we had been paying locally (and that's even with paying for shipping. I will order this product again.

The sex of hedgehog

To find out the sex of the hedgehog is very easy. You can quickly distinguish between male or female. If the hedgehog is tame and friendly, slowly turn the roll over and look into the tail region. Female genitalia close to the anus, while the male genitalia slightly above his stomach. The distance is approximately 1.5 cm in children / hoglet males. However, this distance increases to 2 cm or more at adulthood.

The first time bathing the hedgehog

It was the first time I bathe my hedgehog named marble and snowi. A little afraid because of fear of hedgehog so cold, frightened ears and eyes splashing water or even be drowned in the bucket though.
The first thing that I prepare is a dry towel, baby shampoo, tooth brushes, water hoses and of course bucket / basin. Yesterday I used a large bucket and fill it with a little water, when I insert the hedgehog turned the water only up to a foot end I add the water back (I had read that hedgehog can swim) down to only the visible head of the hedgehog. I hold the lower belly and began to pour baby shampoo to the thorns and scrub gently, then I turned it in order to scrub the bottom after I finished brushing rinse with clean water and dry with a towel while occasionally I blow dry and a fan with a paper (let dry quickly) .
When dry, wipe my face and ears also hedgehog. Apparently when hedgehog bath, these animals tend to be quiet just making it easier for me.
Finally ... wowwww marble and snowi be clean and fragrant

About Hedgehog

Hedgehogs are generally known as a mini small mammals with a layer of stiff, sharp spines that cover their backs. They have a pointy nose, and eyes rather prominent is located on the side of the face. Their ears are usually round, although in some species, can be elongated, and situated high on the side of the head. They have a small and short tail, and functionally very little used. They can roll up like a ball of spines when threatened and when it is rolled up it will feel a little thorn
sharply when held.

Hedgehog is not a rodent. They are a group of animals insectivora, the same as animals such as moles, shrews, and Voles. They were not related to porcupines, although a somewhat similar appearance caused a lot of people misinterpret the mini porcupine (hedgehog) as a baby Porcupine.

Lately have been many who have mini hedgehog as a pet. and animals that we have is not wild animal. Hedgehog mini is a mixture of two types of hedgehogs, and not a natural varieties.
